Tuesday provided us with yet another spectacular sunrise. If they're this good here, we can't wait to see them in Bora Bora.
We spent the morning just hanging out at our awesome rental house, taking in some rays and kicking it in the hot tub. Our baby albatross came out from his nesting spot and decided to sun himself in the driveway most of the morning. He's just so darn cute!
After having lunch on our lanai, we decided to head to Tunnels to do some snorkeling. The reef at Tunnels is so large that it can be seen from space! Despite overcast skies, the fish were out in force. Andrea counted at least a dozen different varieties including angelfish, saddle wrasse, Christmas wrasse (so pretty) and the Hawaii state fish, the humuhumunukunukuapua'a, which is better known as the wedgetail triggerfish.
Tunnels is also home to Bali Hai, the huge rock formation that juts above the north shore. It's a pretty iconic rock in Kauai. For example, we picked our wedding spot because we wanted to have Bali Hai in our photos. Trivia note: Bali Hai is not an island as Rogers and Hammerstein would have you think. In "South Pacific," Bloody Mary sings about the mysterious island of Bali Hai where she lives. In fact, it's not an island, but a big rock. When the original movie was filmed on Kauai, Bali Hai was filmed in such a way that you could not tell that it was not an island. Cool, huh?
Here's a shot of Bali Hai and Tunnels. Note the size of the people on the beach for scale purposes.
